About Diy Papers, Formerly known as Thompson Paper Inc.

ThompsonPaper was located in downtown Kansas City, Missouri  on Southwest Boulevard and Broadway next to Manny's for over 100 years and in that time we met and  did business with a who's who of Kansas City businesses, both large and small, independent and corporate. Artists and Print shops, to photographers, and scrappers.  On our bridal end, we married off hundreds of thousands of customers through the years.

Most of you remember Roy Thompson, the owner and operator who was there everyday for almost 70 years and he

is still going strong and he still has access to the Diamond Cutter you may have remembered him always working

on and tinkering with and of course you Kansas Citians also remember Debra Thompson, Roy's daughter working with

the brides and print shops for over 40 years and still a KC fixture.

Thompson Paper has a very long and diverse history in Kansas City.

They were started in the early 1900's by Lee R. Thompson and his father in the Downtown Kansas City

print and paper district at 8th and Broadway.  They then relocated to the Graphics Arts building at 9th and Wyandotte,

where they remained until 1984 when a fire demolished the original building and forced them to move.

Through the years, Roy, his father and grandfather sold such KC luminaries as Hallmark cards and Walt Disney when

they were first starting out.  Walt had an office downtown and we often traded paper for his services as an artist

for promotional pieces, as money was a little tight for the fledgling entrepreneur.

There next destination was 20th and Southwest Boulevard next to Manny's restaurant until Summer 2005 when the declining

number of print shops in KC and poor economic conditions, with companies spending less on the products they use,

led us to decide to shut down the retail location.

Unfortunately, Thompson Paper.com was taken in various incarnations as a web property and the domain

name was secured.  So a change to Diy Papers was the new choice as it gave a focus to a lot of what we cater

to now, people who want to do projects themselves.

We have since decided to sell the same quality items and will even be expanding the product lines in 2008.

As always, we appreciate your business and looking forward to hearing from customers new and old.
